A snapshot of our curriculum...
RE
Topic – Galilee to Jerusalem
Lesson – The pupils designed a colour-stained window based on The Parable of the Sower.

English
Topic – Plastic Pollution.
Lesson – The pupils researched the effects of plastic pollution and recorded facts they could use for their poster to raise awareness of the matter.

In English, Year 3 read Planet Omar: The Accidental Trouble Magnet. The children worked in groups to create thoughtful questions to ask Omar about how he feels about starting school in a new place. They then took part in a hot-seating activity, where they spoke in role as Omar and answered the questions. Throughout the book, Omar’s Muslim faith is embedded in the story, and the children explored aspects of the Islamic religion as part of their learning.

Young Writers Competition
Some Year 3 children took part in the Younger Writers competition, where they were challenged to write an exciting adventure story within a set word limit. The children used their imagination and creativity to develop characters, settings and problems, carefully choosing their words to fit the limit. They showed great enthusiasm and effort, and it was a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their writing skills and confidence as young authors.

Maths
Topic – Multiplication and division.
Lesson – After using concrete resources, the pupils worked together to answer a series of questions on multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number.

Science
In our Health and Movement topic, we explored how muscles work by using elastic bands, strips of cardboard, and split pins. We used these materials to model how muscles contract and relax to move parts of the body. By moving the elastic bands and joints, we could clearly see how muscles pull on bones to create movement, helping us better understand how the body works.

Geography
Topic – Our European Neighbours.
Lesson – Pupils identifying which country the people on the cards live in by using an information sheet and an Atlas to locate the country on a map.

DT
Pop-up books
In our DT lesson on pop-up books, we focused on experimenting with different pop-out objects. We tested a range of mechanisms, such as folds, tabs, and levers, to see how they helped shapes and pictures pop out from the page. Through this hands-on experimenting, we learned which mechanisms worked best and how changing the size or position affected how the objects moved.

Light up boxes
Year 3 built simple electrical circuits as part of their DT process to create light-up boxes. They learned how to connect batteries, wires, and bulbs safely so the lights would turn on. By testing and improving their circuits, the children discovered how electricity flows and how their designs could work successfully inside their boxes.
Art
In our Egyptian art topic, we created Egyptian scrolls by making our own papyrus paper and following a design–make–evaluate process. First, we designed our scrolls by planning traditional Egyptian patterns and symbols. Then we made the papyrus using layered strips and carefully added our designs using appropriate colours and shapes. Finally, we evaluated our finished scrolls by reflecting on what worked well and how closely our artwork matched authentic Egyptian art styles.
